La Palma Cross-countryLocated at the north of the Canaries archipelago, La Palma or Isla Bonita, the surface area of 708m2, came into existence by a volcanic eruption two million years ago. La Palma, one of the highest islands in the world with an altitude of 2400m, has unrivalled natural resources and a unique climate. On one day you’ll discover its volcanic gravel routes, the next day you’ll be riding in dense tropical forests.

If you’re looking for an unspoilt destination away from the tourist crowds, diverse and spectacular scenery and the clearest skies in the northern hemisphere, then this week mountain biking on tracks and enjoyable footpaths is made for you!

ENROLL

Day 1: Participants arrive at La Palma airport, a 15-minute transfer by car to our wonderful hotel in the Breña area. Unpack and set up the bikes and welcome aperitive!

Day 2: A 20-minute car transfer direction El Refugio del Pilar (1455m). From there, we set off for a circuit of the surrounding volcanic area of La Palma, alternating superb trails and also some fantastic volcanic gravel single tracks before a swooping finishes down to the sea along the slope of the youngest volcano of the Canaries, the Ténéguia. Meal on the seafront at the Fuencaliente’s famous kiosk. Transfer to our hotel in the south-east of the island near Breña. Evening meal at Santa Cruz (optional) 30 km +600m-1500m

Day 3: A 40-minute transfer via Santa Cruz and climb to 1500m direction la Fuente de Oelsen. In a magnificent pine forest, we start the ride on-piste followed by singletracks. We come close to the Puntallana refuge hut before taking the track which allows us to pick up the end of the road leading to the heights of La Caldera at more than 2300m altitude. Here a small picnic is ready for us after which we’ll follow the piste back down to the Los Gallegos refuge hut, then singletracks and trails to finish the ride at our new hotel in Barlovento. Two swimming pools, as well as a Jacuzzi, will help you relax in this typically Canarian hotel. 30kms +700m-1300m

Day 4: We start out from the hotel on our bikes direction Briestas and the superb "Pinos Canarios" forests on the north coast, then descent to Roque Faro and it’s a typical restaurant for lunch.

Afterwards we enter the magnificent wild tropical forest along tracks and trails before reaching the picturesque village of El Tablado. Transfer along the north coast. Tonight we sleep at in Barlovento. 28kms +600m-900m

Day 5: Free day with possibility of visiting the astrophysics observatory at 2400m altitude, natural swimming pool near Barlovento , hiking in the surrounding area or visiting the picturesque village of Santa Cruz etc..

Day 6: Start on our bikes from the hotel direction la Laguna de Barlovento, then a climb to higher ground passing through the Laurisilva forest before reaching the summit at 1400m and admiring the view of the coastline. Return to the hotel along singletracks and trails through the magnificent humid tropical forest. 28kms +800m-800m Meal at the end of the ride. Tonight we sleep at Barlovento.

Day 7: 45-minute transfer in direction of the north-west part of the island. Tracks following the coastline through magnificent “Pinos Canarios” forests, crop fields and vineyards as well as some easygoing singletracks before reaching Tijarafe village. Then downhill to the port and beach at Tazacorte. Swimming and meal on the seafront. Transfer direction of our hotel in Breña. 32kms +500m-1500m. Pack up the bikes and typical meal at Santa Cruz(optional)

Day 8: Short transfer to the airport and end of trip La Palma Cross-country. Hasta Luego!

PS: The kilometres and elevation differences may vary slightly because the tours are adaptable (depending on possibilities) on-site according to levels and desires.
